The radio does do tone encode, but it only does 1 tone, I’ve done a little research and there seems to less than 20 repeaters worldwide on 10M that operate with this particular tone. If you’re trying to decide between using an encoder and hacking apart your keyboard, I would definitely recommend an encoder. If you order prewired connectors as I did, you should be able to do the electrical hookup in an hour or so.

The AD is a chip that can produce a sinusoidal wave from about 1hz to 40mhz. Without going into too much detail you are required to send a set of serial or parallel data to the chip to set the frequency. However it has been hard to find a good AD Pinout so here you go.
